United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021–2030)
The United Nations General Assembly proclaims the period 2021–2030 as the Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, aiming to scale up global efforts to prevent, halt, and reverse the degradation of terrestrial and marine ecosystems. The instrument mandates UNEP and FAO to lead its implementation in collaboration with the Rio conventions and other multilateral bodies. It calls on Member States to mainstream ecosystem restoration into national policies, mobilize resources, and promote scientific research and international cooperation. The Decade establishes explicit links with the Paris Agreement, the 2030 Agenda, the post-2020 global biodiversity framework, and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification.
